The main focus of a lubrication cooling system is to maintain the quantity and condition of the lubricant. It is mainly oil based system that is used in areas where constant change of lubricant is not an easy option. It mainly maintains the properties of the lubricant and reconditions it for reuse. This system is self sustained and is widely used to maintain optimum working temperature, pressure and a clean pure oil quality for lubrication in bearings, gearboxes, turbines, pumps motors etc.
For example, the oil used in a gearbox is drained out in a pan and it initial fadly passes through a filter which is 150 microns. This filters clears off the minute particles from wear and tear damage or any dust or impurities present in the oil and prevents corrosion damage. The oil moves next into a heat exchanger system. This system is adapted based on the size of the size of the lubrication system. This heat exchanger is either air cooled, water cooled or oil cooled depending on the quantity of discharge oil being handled. Once the oil passes through the heat exchangers, it attains the required cooling temperature where it attains back its characteristics. This oil further passes through a filter of 49 microns to eliminate absolutely any form of impurity present in the oil. At this stage, the oil is completely free of impurities and has regained its initial characteristics and is pumped back into the gearbox for regular use.
One of the major features of the lubrication system is that is comes with an inbuilt redundancy unit. This is a parallel secondary line running along with the main line that ensures that the system does not fail at any point in time. If in case, any problems occurs at the main line, the system automatically shifts to the secondary line and maintains the pressure for the lubrication. This is a fail safe method applied in areas where the operations needs to remain constant and cannot stop for any reasons. This cycle can continue functioning until the reason for failure in the main cycle is figured and restored to normal.
